Known Model Specific Information

Potential Issues for Olympus XA / A11 (Reference Only):

  • Shutter: This model can experience sticky or slow shutters. For this specific unit, the shutter was tested across varying light conditions and confirmed to close promptly and consistently.
  • Battery Depletion: The Olympus XA is known for potential rapid battery depletion even when the clamshell is closed. We have confirmed the camera powers on and functions, but long-term battery drainage over several days without use was not specifically monitored for this unit.
  • Viewfinder: Dim rangefinder patches or misalignment are common. This unit exhibits slight haze in the viewfinder, which may affect patch brightness. Rangefinder alignment was checked during focusing and appeared functional, but precise factory alignment was not specifically tested.
  • A11 Flash Unit: Flash failures are known for the A11. For this unit, the flash was tested with a fresh battery, and the 'ready' light illuminated, and the flash fired consistently.
Please note that while this unit passed all functional tests, these are common issues to be aware of for the Olympus XA series.

Not Recommended For

  • Collectors seeking pristine, museum-grade optics: Due to the slight haze and fungus present in the lens and viewfinder.
  • Users requiring absolute optical perfection for critical work: The slight optical imperfections might be noticeable in very specific shooting conditions or when making large prints.
  • Users expecting guaranteed extended battery life without monitoring: While functional, this model has a known potential for rapid battery drainage that was not extensively monitored in this specific unit.
  • Buyers who require guaranteed factory-perfect rangefinder alignment: Although focusing was confirmed functional, slight haze is present and specific factory alignment tolerances were not measured.
