Known Issues for This Model

The Olympus mju 1 is an older compact camera and this model is known for the following problems. We list them so you know what we looked at and how this unit behaved during our inspection.

  • Shutter: the lens may extend and autofocus may run, but the shutter does not fire and the lens stays extended until the clamshell is closed (often a broken flex cable or a small capacitor). Our check: the shutter fires correctly.
  • Electronics / power: inconsistent power-on when the clamshell is opened, or random power-off mid-roll with a lost frame count. Our check: the camera powered on and stayed on during our inspection.
  • Film advance: the camera can fail to wind film and show a blinking "E" on the LCD, usually caused by a chipped plastic gear in the transport. A bench test cannot confirm long-term film transport behaviour, so please load a first roll and confirm correct winding to frame 1.
  • Battery drain: a fresh battery can sometimes be used up within days because of internal electrical leakage. Please monitor battery life during your first weeks of use.
  • Flash: the built-in flash can stop firing in every mode (flash capacitor or flash circuit board). Our check: the flash fires.
  • Focus: some units produce out-of-focus images, especially at long distance or infinity. Our check: autofocus and helicoid movement are OK. Please test at several distances with your first roll.
